Penny Budget privacy policy
Last updated 23 July 2026. This policy covers the Penny Budget mobile app on iOS and Android.
The short version. Your budgets and transactions are stored on your device. Sync is off until you switch it on in Settings; once you do, they are also stored on our server so they survive a lost phone and appear on your other devices. There are no ads, no analytics and no trackers, and nothing about you is ever sold.
Accounts
Penny Budget uses an account so your budget can sync and so you can share one with your household. You can sign in with Apple, or with an email address and password. Accounts and synced budget data are stored on our Supabase server.
What we collect, and what we don't
| Data | What happens to it |
|---|---|
| Budgets, categories and transactions you enter | Always on your device. If you turn sync on, also stored on our server against your account so they reach your other devices. |
| Anything inside a shared household | If you create or join a household, the budgets, categories and transactions in it are visible to every member of that household. Leaving the household stops any further sharing. |
| Email address | Used to identify your account, sign you in and let you reset your password. Never sold and never used for marketing. |
| Apple account identifier | If you use Sign in with Apple. If you choose to hide your email, we only ever see Apple’s relay address. |
| Bank or card details | Not collected. The App Store and Google Play version of Penny Budget does not connect to your bank and has no access to any financial account — you enter transactions yourself. |
| Advertising identifiers | Not collected. There are no ads and no ad SDKs in the app. |
| Analytics or usage tracking | Not collected. There is no analytics SDK in the app. |
| Location | Not collected. |
Who else touches your data
| Service | What it receives |
|---|---|
| Supabase | Hosts the account database and your synced budget data. Supabase is our data processor and does not use your data for its own purposes. |
| Apple sign-in | Used only to verify who you are. Apple tells us an account identifier and, if you allow it, an email address. |
Permissions the app asks for
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
| Face ID / biometrics | To unlock the app if you turn on the lock. Handled by the operating system; the app never sees your face or fingerprint data. |
How long we keep things
Data on your device stays until you delete it or remove the app. Anything held on our server is kept until you delete your account, at which point it is erased for good.
Deleting your data
Delete individual transactions and categories from within the app at any time.
Open Settings → Account → Security → Delete Account. This permanently deletes your account, every budget and every transaction we hold. It cannot be undone and we keep no backup copy of it afterwards.
Your rights
| Right | What it means |
|---|---|
| Get a copy of your data | Ask us and we will send you everything we hold that is linked to you. |
| Correct it | If something we store about you is wrong, tell us and we will fix it. |
| Delete it | Use the in-app delete, or ask us and we will erase it. |
| Complain | If you are in the UK or EU you can complain to your local data protection authority. |
To exercise any of these, email [email protected]. We reply within 30 days.
Children
Penny Budget is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a way that affects what we collect, we will update the date at the top and note the change in the app's release notes.
